Kudos to whomever is responsible for the ad for Citroen's new C4 [car]. A very clever piece of work.

Note: It's all well and good to finally get off one's duff and sort out all those boxes of fabrics and stuff [having cleared the loungeroom floor first - PT was amazed at the amount of cloth. Not enough by my reading though. ;) ] However, putting things away to where they should be can be confusing when you start looking for them where they were. Can't win!

Alcohol

Between the bouts of sleeping [which does save me on having to eat btw], I've done a little thinking and one of the things that I've decided to write/spruik about today is alcohol and its affect on so many human beings. I've become curious about studies that have [or haven't] been done on alcohol and what it does to people. Has anyone actually studied why some people are angry drunks and others maudlin? Why some are sleepy and others happy drunks? Or have they just studied whether it is 'generically' good for or bad for humans to consume [depending upon whose study you read]?
Could it be that as with many allergies, [insert chemical name for subject of discussion – oh for an on hand home encyclopaedia] induces various reactions on various humans? Is not just that drinking too much is the only 'bad' thing about it but could it be inducing the necessary [electro]chemical reactions in different bodies to trigger the different emotions that are 'awakened/enhanced' by its consumption? I have witnessed what have appeared to be racial differences in how alcohol affects different people which makes me think that it could be a 'genetic' thing.

On a similar but different vein, what is it with beer companies in particular that seems to make it mandatory to show particular behaviour patterns as being okay? As a rule, I don't drink the stuff but I don't think that excludes me from being able to comment on the ads I see that have been made to sell this ancient beverage.
Why do these ads seem to not only condone but encourage foolish, idiotic and/or even down-right dangerous behaviour? Why must they repeatedly show that ignoring 'common sense' is something to be made light of, even laughed at? Is this something to do wish the 'male' mindset that I'm just not seeing or is it just plain irresponsible thoughtlessness?
This is not the first time I've thought about this and until such ads are no longer screened, I doubt it will be the last especially in a day and age that we are more publically aware of the side effects of careless drinking.

By that by, for those of you reading this and may think otherwise, I am not a teetotaller, even though I come from a family of alcoholics and I'll kindly accept a JD or Bourbon with coke, even a Black Russian or two, over which to discuss this topic further. I like being a 'happy drunk'.

PS – I know other ads are also guilty of such things [a particular car ad comes straight to mind] but this bit of writing/rambling is dedicated to incohol.

PPS – Saw some of the 70s/80s beer ads on '20 to 1' and they weren't so bad. It seems that they've gone downhill since the 90s.

It struck me today, that every time I see a light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how dim, something/someone comes along and kicks a downward bend into that tunnel.

I begin to ask myself, more and more, why do I bother, why wont my survival tendancies just take a hike?

A chemistry lesson that's fun.

I've been having trouble sleeping lately, what with the heat and all but being woken from a restless slumber at around half six this morning wasn't so bad as I got to watch the thorny cubby-house bush turn into a christmas tree as a small flock of crimson rosellas descended on it to wait their turns at the bird feeder. It probably helped their wait that the bush has it's own wee berries for them to chomp on. Need to get them some more seed.

I hate being a pensioner even more when half a dozen medium sized bills appear and need to be paid at the same time. Why can't they happen gradually?

I need people in my life!

How can 3 or 4 people all get into the same car and NOT notice that there is a cat asleep on the roof? These people were backing out of their driveway when I noticed and waved at them to stop which the driver did just before he was about to start forward. There was quite a look of surprise on his face as the cat walked down the windscreen directly in front of him.

What is wrong with this picture?

It's 'warm' outside.
The sun is burning brightly.
My neighbour is not only basking in the full sunlight but is also wearing a full length fur coat whilst doing so!

Is it wrong...

to think that a guy washing his car with a hose and wasting loads of water, whether he has a rain tank or not, is being just plain arrogant? Is it wrong to think that approving of such peopel and excusing all like him is being arrogant?

When are people going to wake up to the fact that we live in one of the dryest continents in the world and that is not going to change, especially if people keep abusing its resources?

Why do people think that their little 'indiscretion' doesn't make a diffence? All of those little wrongs add up to one BIG wrong that everyone has to pay for - and then it is usually those that broke the rules that are the first to complain if they are put out.

Am I being 'arrogant' by hating arrogance and getting mad at arrogant people? I really wish I could afford to move right now because my landlord/housemate's arrogance is really starting to get up my nose.

America + Katrina = Dark Angel scenario [if not worse]

Indonesia + Tsunami = A lot less violence [from memory]

Australia + similar natural catastrophe = How well do you think we would do?  Mad Max time or closer to the 'calmness' of SE Asia? Or do you think we would again try to 'copy' Americans
